Mat Masterclass for the Sole to Spine
with Madeline Black

LONDON:
Friday 23 March 2012, 5:30pm – 7:30pm
Cost: £40. Capacity: 20 Participants
Venue: Moss Pilates, 10 London Fruit Exchange, 56 Brushfield Street London E1 6HB

Madeline will teach a class based on her experience studying under Naja Cori, a first-generation Pilates teacher in New York. Naja's attention began with the feet. Madeline created this class starting with the feet and progressing into traditional mat sequencing with the focus on the pelvis and feet. Madeline feels that the focus on core work with Pilates has overshadowed the power of the connection of the feet into the pelvis. Naja Cori strongly believed one would not progress into the mat work or apparatus work without the foundation of balanced feet. Experience the mat work in a new way.

You will experience:
• How movement of the feet activates the pelvic floor and psoas giving a sensation of deep abdominal connection
• How mat work with attention on the action of the feet up into the hips and pelvis creates a stronger trunk
• How to strengthen the hips starting from the feet
• How to do traditional mat work with a 'whole body connection' feeling
• Enjoy a fun and energized workout

Participants can attend either day, or both days, and receive a complete learning experience.

Have you ever wondered how feet influence the core? Discover how to correct misaligned feet and achieve better overall movement function for your clients. Help those with foot issues unlock reciprocal movement dysfunction in the spine and pelvis (and vice versa) through standing, walking and non-weight bearing choreography. This two-day workshop will explore the anatomy and function of the feet up through the pelvic-lumbar junction.

The resulting innovative use of resistance bands to cope with a range of movement dysfunctions is central to his PRIME Post Rehabilitation Course. He has spent over 25,000 hours with clients developing an approach to Pilates designed to help people overcome their specific movement limitations. He has created a professional instructor training curriculum that offers a step-by-step approach to learning how to teach McEntire Pilates. What if the client cannot make the right connection?
What if your client doesn't know how to activate or move their body?
What if movements waste energy, cause more problems and get in the way of performance?

Making Connections That Matter is a program about solutions. It is based on Trent's 13 years of discovering and developing information, exercises and tools for two extreme ends of the movement spectrum; clients with moderate to severe restrictions and clients that are high performance athletes.

This program is an opportunity for instructors because the demand for professionals that can help these populations grows daily. Whether you currently work with these populations or wish to gain the tools and confidence to begin seeing these types of clients, this is information you can start using immediately.

Mat Masterclass – Intermediate/Advanced
with Alan Herdman

LEEDS:
Friday 20 May 2011, 6:00pm – 8:00pm
Cost: £35. Capacity: 35 Participants
Venue: Yorkshire Dance Centre, 3 St Peters Buildings, St Peters Square, Leeds LS9 8AH

Pilates Umbrella is proud to present two masterclasses given by master teacher Alan Herdman. Alan Herdman studied at the London School of Contemporary Dance and was working as a teacher and dancer when, in the late 1960s, he was invited to New York to learn about the Pilates Method. There he worked intensively with Carola Trier and Bob Fitzgerald, two instructors who had been trained by Pilates himself. Although well-regarded amongst New York's dance fraternity, Pilates was unknown in the UK at that time and Alan returned in 1970 to set up Britain's first ever Pilates studio. Among his first clients were actors, dancers and singers, but word soon spread as doctors and physiotherapists began recommending Pilates to patients struggling with chronic injuries.

Alan now lectures on Pilates around the world, and he has written several successful books, including The Pilates Directory (2004), The Gaia Busy Person's Guide to Pilates (2003) and Pilates: Creating the Body You Want (1999). He runs a training course for Pilates instructors and, as well as running his own studios, he and his assistants teach in dance schools and designated Pilates studios internationally. Pilates teaching staff at both Champneys Health Resorts and Shrubland Hall Health Clinic are personally trained by Alan Herdman.
Alan is also a top presenter at the Pilates Method Alliance conference every year.
